Brisbane/Meanjin’s quality of light is unique – harsh rays and long shadows. We draw inspiration from our surroundings and our music is an attempt to understand both our city and our place in the world.
Established in 2015, we have opened for Australian acts such as Ian Moss, The Choirboys and The Black Sorrows.
Band members Akash Rooney (vocals), Hal Chandler (bass), Matthew Teakle (guitar) and Peter Smith (drums) met at the jazz department of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, and represent a tight, professional and creative ensemble. Of note is that we are also a seasoned function band, playing all styles of music for all types of audiences.
We are incredibly grateful for Ryan Hammermeister’s song writing contributions (as a part of LY-OH) and the friendship of Rosemary Kate and Brendan Thomson!
The Undercurrents acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we are privileged to create and perform on. We recognise the deep connection and ongoing contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and pay respect to Elders past and present.
